Otherwise Society asks what we could build together, if unlimited by the constraints of the current human paradigm. What if we relearned how to coordinate like a village, and what if that village interrelated with other villages? As a Private Membership Association, decisions are made collectively, through an emergent process. We are also actively working on acquiring 501(c)(10) tax exempt status as a fraternal society, with the ability to help create future Commons spaces in other places under the Otherwise Society umbrella.

The first phase of this inquiry is Otherwise Society Commons, an alcohol free gathering space and new kind of third place in Poulsbo, WA, ancestral territory of the suq̀ʷabš “People of Clear Salt Water” (Suquamish People). We collectively curate events, coworking sessions, dance and music, films, workshops and other community events. The Commons is alcohol free but has a growing tea bar with kava, cacao, and other mood enhancing beverages. Through this community curation of engaging and diverse programming we can learn how to steward a commons together.

The Commons is also available for private event rentals, email events@otherwisesociety.org for more info.
